Firstly, new materials, especially membrane diaphragms and electrodes, need to be developed. The new components will be tested in a small scale electrolyser that is adapted to the new design of the stack components. Next, the components and the electrolyser will be scaled up to intermediate scale and in a later stage, to the final technical scale. The requirements for the electrolyser will get more advanced with each up-scaling, e.g. the system pressure will be increased within the development phases. Preparation techniques with view to commercialisation of the products need to be developed as well. In a final step, a system concept for integrating electrolysers with solar fields is developed. Additional system components need to be selected and tested. A cost estimation for the single components and the complete system will be made. The project runs from November 2011 to October 2014.
